Using a Trigger to a Resource File
Oct 27, 2015
Fellow ELHs:
I am trying to link to a word document using the trigger command.
I uploaded the document in the course resources section and now I would like to be able to select it as the object of the action.
Action: Jump to URL/File
File: C:....(File Name.doc) When I select the document - it shows the path to my local hard drive. Which it seems that this will not work when the object is published on the LMS.
Do I have to publish the document externally for this to work?
Thanks,
TG

Hi Thomas!
If you have added the file to the resources of your player, you may want to link to the file as explained in this article.
Your initial concern about the file location can be explained better here:
When you publish, Storyline will bundle a copy of the file along with your course. (It'll be located in the story_content folder of your published output.) Learners will need to have the appropriate software to view the file.
You can check out that documentation here.
Thanks Leslie! Worked like a charm.
Perfect! Glad to hear it Thomas and I appreciate you popping in with an update.
Tip: I've found if we have a link in the Resources panel as well you will not have to drag the file into external files folder for your triggered access. If you're not using resources, it won't work.
I have this link attached to a shape. When I publish, SL2 goes out and gets it and puts it in the external files folder.
