Using branching with Question Banks

Dec 17, 2020

Hi eLearning Community,

Does anyone have any experience using branching with question banks in Storyline 360? Let me explain what I'm trying to do.

I want to have a series of questions where a user will watch a short process video and will be asked if the operator did the process correctly (Y/N). If the user answers N, it will take him/her to a subsequent question asking what the operator did incorrectly (with M/C answers). If the user answers Y, then the user will be asked the next question and not the part b question.

I was able to get this to work not using question banks, but I would really prefer to ask these randomly and where they get a random order of correct process videos and incorrect process videos.

I tried a couple of different methods:

1. Adding the Part A and Part B questions to the question bank and using the lock feature to lock each part B question to it's part A;

2. Adding just the Part A questions to the question bank and use triggers to direct user to the Part B question (in another scene) then back to the question bank draw;

3. I tried various applications of layers and lightboxes (and feel one of these may be the best way forward), but couldn't quite get it to work.

If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them. I'm attaching my .story file (Scene 1 is the process working correctly and Scene 2 has the question bank draw).

Thanks!

Lori

Hi there Lori!

Happy to meet you here in the E-Learning community!  Not sure if you already figured this one out or not, but I thought I'd drop by to share my findings with you, in case you're still needing some ideas :)

I'm hoping you can reach your goal with the help of these threads from other folks in the community:

Here are some articles that have great info on random question banks:

Thought I'd also throw in a template I found that might inspire some creativity!

If you don't mind, I'd love to hear feedback from you to see if this info was helpful or not.  Meantime, I'll download your .story file and give it a whirl myself!
