Using Button to advance slides

Jul 17, 2018

New to Storyline and trying to figure it out. I want my video to stop in particular places, have a button appear, and require that my viewers click on the button for the video to continue. I've created the buttons...but I can't figure out how to set up the mechanism to stop the video until the viewer clicks on the button. Thank you.

Hi there Rob! Happy to help.

The easiest way to accomplish this would be to use a layer. Try these steps:

  • On the slide with the video, create a new layer called "Pause Video"
  • On the Pause Video layer, add a custom "Play" button.
  • Add a trigger to the Play button to "hide layer this layer when the user clicks the Play button."
  • On the base layer, add a trigger to "Show layer Pause Video when the timeline reaches [x] seconds."

With that setup, the video will pause when the layer is opened, and it won't play again until the user clicks the Play button. Hope that helps!
