Using New Trigger Flow, Add to Variable Not Working

Jan 03, 2020

Hello community!

I'm using Storyline 360, latest version. I switched recently to the new trigger flow style, and I've also just updated my Storyline. I've noticed that even though I have selected the "ADD" value 1 to my variable, Storyline is acting like I have just "SET" value 1 to my variable. I have done the ADD method to limit attempts on quizzes many times before, but now it's just not working.

I've tried moving the trigger to the start of the quiz slide, and I originally had it upon pressing the "RETRY QUIZ" button. My trigger is always at the top of the trigger stack, and I have implemented a reference counter in the course for testing purposes to see if the numerical variable (named Retest) will EVER count up, and it always goes from 0 to 1 and then stays at 1 so I know the +1 functionality is not getting picked up. I've also imported the course into a brand new Storyline course and that did not help at all.

I've attached a screenshot of the trigger stack. I need to have this functionality work ASAP so if someone could suggest a workaround, that would be helpful.

Also Articulate, I'm not sure where to share a bug report but I'm pretty sure the issue above is a bug.

Hello, question, can you post a slide from your course?

Right now I see you are telling SL to add 1 to Retest when the timeline starts (so it will go from 0 to 1 on the slide it is on.  So this will fire when the timeline starts, you say it stays at 1.  What are you doing to try and increment it?  Is this trigger on each slide in your quiz?  Happy to help just looking for more details ;0)

See attached file with a test, adding 1 to Retest when timeline starts on the slide, or by clicking a button.

Hi Rebecca

you could log a ticket with support and upload privately to them.  I'm just a forum user so posting here would be public.  If you wanted me to have a look you could click my profile and contact me via email.

Maybe we can troubleshoot by asking more questions.

Can you screenshot any triggers that are using the variable that you are having trouble with, including the variables window where it was created.

Try creating a new number variable (default it to 1. I use 1 because it represents the first attempt of doing the interaction) and see if that makes a difference.

Let's start there if you want to or log a ticket here.

Hi Jeff! I was initially just using the trigger on the Retry Quiz button, to add 1 every time the user clicks. And then when they get to 3, a new layer pops up and they can no longer retry the quiz.

I have a reference %% block showing on the results page, and that reference for the Retest variable will go from 0 to 1, but it will never rise above 1 no matter how many times you visit the first page (which should be adding 1) OR click on the Retry Quiz button.

It's setting the variable instead.

Nope, set to value Wendy, I just double-checked and have provided a screenshot.

I'm thinking my Storyline file may be bugged because I was able to add normally to a variable in a fresh file with no content.

I've opened a ticket with Storyline, and I'm hoping there's a solution that isn't scrapping my whole course and starting over, because just importing did not help in my previous attempts to troubleshoot.
