Using Storyline 3 on a system not connected to the internet
Nov 14, 2017
Hi All,
Hopefully someone can answer this for me.
I am considering purchasing two Storyline 3 licenses, installing one license on a training computer system (that is not connected to any form of internet) so I can complete screen capture learning interventions of system processes/actions etc. and the other on my work laptop, so I could take the screen captures etc. from the training system and create eLearning solutions. I would then upload the finished product to our LMS system.
I personally have a Storyline 2 license at home, which allowed me to install the software and license on both my personal laptop and personal desktop system at home (two computers/one license).
My questions are;
1. Does Storyline 3 allow one license to be installed on two machines?
2. Will the Storyline 3 software operate correctly when operated on a system that is not connected to the internet?
Thanks
Tony

Those are great questions, Tony!
Hi Alyssa,
Thank you so much for your reply. I am now waiting to hear from our IT guys whether or not the host computer (for system simulations) can be connected to the internet to download and activate the software. There isn't an issue with my work laptop and this will be the main use of the software, but the system computer (which will be used for screencast/screen shots only) may be an issue.
If I am informed that the computer cannot be connected to the internet (for security reasons etc.) is there another option of installing and activating Storyline 3 on the secondary computer?
Thanks
Tony
Hi Tony,
If you have a way to transfer the Storyline installation files to the secondary computer without internet you're welcome to install and activate Storyline on up to two computers for your use. If you'll be switching between a few computers, just remember to deactivate when you aren't using it in a particular computer.
Hi Ashley,
One computer I use will always be online, so install and activation would be easy for that one. Could I copy the installation files to a USB drive and install to the secondary computer that way? Also, is there a way to push any updates (if any are released) on to the remote computer? (again maybe on a USB drive?)
Oh, and how would I activate the remote computer installed via a USB drive?
Thanks
Hi Tony! You've got it. You can copy the latest installation files to a USB, and then save them to your local C: drive on your offline machine. Run it from the local drive.
You can download each update that comes out and follow those steps, as the installation file will change with each version. Be sure to delete that file after it's done installing, as they'll all be labeled
storyline-3.exe
. 🙂As for activation, you can activate offline using manual activation. The steps are listed here - you'll just need to email us the information needed to complete that process from an online machine or device.
