I've been running Storyline on a Portrait monitor for a while now. What draws me to it is the visibility of all the timeline elements, and the slide fits at 100% nicely on half the monitor.
When you reach 20+ timeline elements, adjusting timing is easier. The slide shows completely as the playhead moves across the timeline. The panels for scene thumbnails and triggers/slide layers can be shown or hidden as needed.
Photoshop users can un-dock panels with click-and-drag to relocate any panel to any monitor or location on any monitor.
If Storyline could relocate panels to another monitor like Photoshop, a portrait mode monitor would not be necessary. Dual landscape monitors would be fine, maybe better.

That looks great Sam, what resolution is your portrait monitor?
It's a 23 inch diagonal wide-screen (which means 16:9) and will run in 1080x1920, but I run it at 900x1600 (easier to see).
