Using Survey Question Storyline block in Rise

Dec 09, 2019

I am building a survey question storyline block that contains a results slide.  Each question is an essay question that users are required to answer and then the results slide allows them to review, print, or retake their questions.  This storyline block will be inserted in a Rise course as a way for users to respond to videos they watch in essay form.  It's my understanding from items I've reviewed in the Rise documentation that these survey question responses will not report back to our LMS and therefore we plan to tell users specifically on the results slide and inside the Rise course that they must print their answers or save them to their computer as they will not be maintained in the course or the LMS.    They will be asked to bring the answers to the video discussions to a face-to-face session as follow-up.

Is there a way in setting up the Storyline survey questions that I can specify that the answers to the survey question must be a minimum number of words?  We noted in testing that setting each essay question as required means they must enter some type of response, but that can be as much as one letter or one word.  Is there a way to set a minimum of a sentence (or 10 words)?  I can't seem to find any way to do this in storyline and my conclusion is that it may not be possible, but I just wanted to check to see if anyone has any insight on this.

Hi Judy,

While there isn't a way to set a minimum amount of characters, I think the best option is to prompt the learner to take their time providing their response.

If you'd like to see this type of change to Storyline, I'd love to have you share more thoughts with our team here!

I hope that others in the community will chime in and share additional suggestions.

Thanks for the quick reply, Vincent.  I have submitted a feature request through the link you provided.  And, yes, since these are built as "reflection" questions in the storyline block, our plans are to put in some instruction about taking time to provide a thorough response.  We've also added the print button so users can save or print their responses to bring with them to the follow up in person sessions.
