Using the free form drag and drop feature

Sep 08, 2013

I would like to use the free form drag and drop feature for participants to rate themselves on a number from 0 to 10

O being considered as no value and 10 as extremely useful.  So users would drag 1 object to the appropriate number and then submit.  There is no right or wrong answer, but after submitting the feedback provides them with the results of that question when asked to a group in a face to face setting. And this could be represented by a graph of the responses...something visual

thanks if you have any ideas

cheers Kate

Ive had a go at the drag and drop activity...(the objects to drag and drop need a little imagination) ...however it will give you an

idea of what Im trying to achieve...the question now is can a variable or trigger be set up so that once the user selects their response

and submits...it will then highlight their choice on the next layer ...on the appropriate column

you can view the example here

Hi Kate,

I think that you could definitely do the second part you're looking for on changing the column on the next layer. Could you use the "Change state of..." feature to change the state of each column? You'd likely need to set up a variable to calculate which answer they've selected - is it possible for you to share the .story file here as well so that we can take a look at everything and play around with set up?

Hi Kate,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - but I've been playing around with your file - and think I've got something that will work (although it involves a number of steps). What I did, was set up a T/F variable for the drag/drops - so for example, I did it for answer 7 - and set it initially to false. When a drag the green 7 onto the red 7, the variable changes to true. Upon going to the response slide, I set another trigger to change the state of green 7's box if, answer7 variable was true. It just modified the color (you could make this as fancy or easy as you wanted). So that it indicates the user's selection.

I've attached my example here - and there may be an easier way, but this is what I came up with.

Thanks Lesley and Ashley...I do have a question though

The drag and drop was set up, for example to drag the green 7 to the red 7...however if you a green 2 and place it on the red 7 it doesnt automatically bounce back, it only bounces back if you place it outside the target drop areas...ive tried a few different options on the click boxes in the set up the drag and drop activity..but nothing seems to work.

Also second question...are you familiar with the activity where you ask a question and for the response you add data entry box (give the variable a name, the user types in their response..then clicks to view the 'expert' response...and their response displays on the next (layer) along side the experts response.  Does that makes sense?  there was an example quite a while back in one of the forums/tutorials.

thanks in advance for your help

cheers Kate

Sorry I forgot to add the question to second paragraph above.

If the slide is set up with a previous button, and the user goes back a slide after answering the question..is there a way that the previous button can go to the slide question rather than the slide before the question slide?

I have set the question slide and response to 'reset initial state' but if you press previous and then move forward to the question slide your answer is still there, it doesnt reset.

Hi Kate,

For the drag items to bounce back if not placed in the correct location you'll want to select the check box on the right hand side and be sure you select if "a correct drop target" like in the image below.

I'm not familiar with the other question type you're describing - do you remember which tutorial it is so I could look at the example?

In regards to resetting the question, because what happens after you answer the question is go to a layer, the automatic way the previous button will work is to go to the slide prior (not the original question slide, as it's all part of that layer set up). The drag and drop interaction also does not automatically reset - but there is an example here from David Anderson although it's dependent on the Correct/incorrect feedback layers.
