Using the same sound effect repeatedly

May 15, 2015

Hey there,

I have a course where I want to use the same sound effect many times (it's a simple beep that plays when the learner hovers over any one of a whole lot of buttons throughout the course). Although I'm using the exact same sound file each time, my output is being bulked up and up with multiple instances of the same tiny sound file with different. Is there any way to get Storyline to pull the sound from a single file rather than filling my output with identical copies of it?

Cheers,

James

Hi James

I tested your theory and it does add the same audio file a number of times to published output if it is located on each slide.  I put it onto a slide master layout which was then assigned to slides 2 and 3.  It only appears once in the published file done this way - not sure if this will work for you.

See attached example.

Hi James,

Yes, this is something we've discussed with our QA team in regards to adding in the same video/audio file or copying it from slide to slide adds another version/duplicate of it within the published output making the file size larger. I don't have additional information to share at this point, but I will let them know about this thread and that Wendy's suggestion of using it on the slide master allows it to stay at the smaller file size.
