Using variables across slides

Jul 16, 2020

Hi all,

I have a scene set up with a branch (one slide leading to three). I have set up a variable so that when the user returns back to the master slide from one of the three branches, the 'next' arrow becomes visible.

The variable is working however the trigger isn't. I have tried multiple things including changing 'when revisiting' on the slide and reordering the triggers but am having no luck.

My project contains sensitive information so I have recreated the scene in a new file which has the same issue.

Would be grateful for any help on this.

Hi Suzanne,

This is a simple fix. What you need to do is to change your trigger to "When timeline starts on this slide" and all will be okay. The way you currently have it will not work because the change to the variable occurs on the previously visited slide and so, by the time the user jumps back to the main slide, the variable has already changed and the trigger does not activate (it needs to see the change occur on the slide where the trigger is set).

You may also want to consider deleting the rectangle altogether and simply creating a Disabled state for your arrow and setting the initial state to Disabled. Your new trigger would then be:
