Using variables with hidden states - I need a hero
Oct 04, 2013
Happy Friday all!
I cannot get my variables and states to work properly. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Here is my situation:
On slide one: students are to select all the diagnostic tests they would like to order. When they select the button I have created a true/ false variable for each different diagnostic test. The variable is initially set to false and when the user "selects" the button the variable changes to true.
On slide two: When complete I want there to be 8 tabs available on the folder. Each tab will be a different diagnostic test textbox on it using the options from slide one. The users will only be able to view the results for that test if they selected it on slide one. I was trying to create this interaction by having all the diagnostic test results text boxes appear "hidden" initially. Then if the student "selected" the test from slide one it would change the variable and in turn (through the "variables changes" option) change the "hidden" diagnostic test result text box on slide two to the "new state" which would then appear on the screen. Then the student could click on the text box and view the layer associated with that test result.
Note: I've also tried this by using a button instead of a text box on slide two. No success there either.
Please let me know what I am doing wrong. This seemed like the easiest option for this interaction since the students can choose any variation of tests to view.

Hi Ruth, welcome to the community!
Have a look at the attached file. On slide 1, I changed a quite a few things. For example, I added triggers to the checkboxes to now toggle your variables to account for a situation where a user changes a selection. Some of your triggers had a condition with two options selected, I didn't know if this was intentional. On slide 2, I changed the triggers of the tab lables, so that they display the New State when the corresponding variable is selected. Hope that's what you wanted.
Michael,
Thank you so much! This was exactly what I was going for! I appreciate your quick and effective response. I tried figuring this out multiple times by myself without any success. You have saved me from any additional headaches and stress. Thanks so much!
