Using Visited State to Change State of an Object

Jul 02, 2019

Hi all

I have a slide where I would like the learner to click on three buttons, that each reveal a different layer, before a continue button appears. I have a trigger set up that the continue button will change from hidden to normal once the three buttons have been clicked, and the layers viewed. I've tried creating a button set as I read in a different discussion, but nothing that I do has been able to fix my problem unfortunately!

This is a very rough draft as I've never used Storyline before, but I am trying to get a better understanding of how to use some of the features.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Carolyn,

I made a couple of changes. I was confused at first as to why it wasn't working but I sorted through it. You have multiple continue buttons on each layer which didn't allow you to see the state changes on the base layer (same for the objectives buttons).  I removed all the duplicates so you can see how the file works. Also, I moved the triggers from off the continue button so the slide recognizes when the other button states change. Take a look at the new file to see what I mean.

Hei Carolyn,

The issue here is that you practically have 12 buttons on all the layers. The trigger which makes the "Continue" button appear requires that three buttons from the same layer are visited. The problem is that you leave the base layer when clicking on a box, visiting a new slide layer with three new boxes which are not a part of the same change-state-on-continue trigger from the base layer.

One of the ways to solve it is by not hiding the base layer when visiting the slide layers (can be found under “properties”), so you only deal with three boxes.
Take a look at the solution in the attached file.
