Using WMV files
Nov 28, 2012
Ugh. I'm using 6 wmv files in a storyline course (it's all that my client had and conversion is degrading the quality). Anyway, this seems to be causing issues with Storyline. My PC displayed the blue screen of death on bootup and this also happened to someone else who was trying to work on the course previous to me. I started from scratch do did not use their file in case it was corrupt. Anyone else had issues like this? Is there a fix? Thanks.

It's not a fix, but rather a work around... Would loading the wmv files using a web object be an option for your course? It would cut out the conversion related issues.
Or....if the .wmv files have some potential corruption issues, you could try converting them to another format before import. Or, open them up in moviemaker and reexport them to try to clear their issues.

Good ideas. The biggest problem with conversion is that it usually involves recompression. Do you know which tool does not do that, other than Final Cut Pro, which I don't believe would look kindly on wmv, though I could be wrong.
Ooops. I forgot I can use Sorensen Squeeze for conversion without re-compressing. Nearly certain it has this option. Thanks for the good ideas -- can't use the Web Object approach.
Most WMVs have been fine for me. If I have an issue, I convert it quickly with FormatFactory and all is well with the world.
