Variable effects on Master Slides

I have a lot of variables and triggers. One thing I am having an issue with is, I have a drag and drop interaction and I want to make it clear which areas are being used and not used in the interaction. All of the images that aren't within the interaction are on the master slide and they have triggers that state when variable changes change to disabled if variable = 2. These triggers are on the master slide and I tried them with several different types of triggers but once I preview the presentation it isn't showing up. I have made it show up normal but can't make it show up disabled. Any ideas?

I've looked into this myself and it seems that even though Storyline allows it, variables can't actually be adjusted through master slides. I've had to move all of my triggers and variable adjustments to the actual slides.
