Variable help needed please :o)
Jun 20, 2013
Hey E-Learning Heros... I know you guys can help me with this. I'm working on a compensation course and have a slide that I would like to have calculate an earned hour bonus based on an individual's role. I'm attaching my slide and any assistance would be really helpful.
In this scenario, an Earned Hour Bonus (EHB) is calculated as follows: Senior Consultant, Manager and Senior Manager are all bonused based on # of over target hours (target for this course will be 520 hours per quarter x 75%):
520 quarterly hour target
x.75
390
x earned hour rate (which is entered by the end user)
Principals are all bonused based on # of over target hours (target for this course will be 520 hours per quarter x 72%):
520 quarterly hour target
x.72
374
x earned hour rate (which is entered by the end user)
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

You can set a variable Role to type text. When the user selects their role, then set the variable equal to that role.
Thanks Sheri, this does help.
Any advise on how to set up the calculation? This is my first time using a calculated value so I'm a little stuck. I've created a variable called "Role" and have added it to each of the different roles. What are my next steps?
I am still working on that part. Here is what I have so far:
I created 2 variables SMS (Snr Cnslt, Mgr, Snr Mgr) equal to the 390 and Principal equal to 374, since it didn't look like those numbers changed
and then these are the triggers I set on Earned Hr Bonus:
On Hours wrkd Qtr I set these triggers:
So far, the second box populates with either 374 or 390 based on the role after I click enter, but I haven't gotten the final answer to populate.
Diane;
I think I have your calculations down. It would need a lot of checking to see if boxes are complete etc but this seems to do what you are after. There is probably a more elegant way to do it but I used temporary variables to calculate and leave the ones you type in alone.

Thanks Tim... this is genius!!!!
Hey Tim... this works fine until I import into my current story.... Any thoughts?
Diane;
Sorry no. What is it doing when you import it?
