I'm making changes to an existing file that someone sent me. The variable was already created.
Are there tutorials on how to create a variable where a user is prompted to enter their name, and then clicks on a button, submit. Then, the name of the user appears at the end of the course.
You've already described everything you need to do. On the first page put a text input, and assign it to a variable. On the last page put a text box, and in it put the variable name surrounded by percentage signs (%VariableName%), and it will show up. You can add other words to the text box, like "Hi there, %VariableName%!!"

I would check you have the correct variable reference and that you are not resetting it anywhere
