Variables and Triggers Not Changing State of Objects

Hello, I am running into a slight issue with my project. I have set variables to limit the number of attempts (Quiz attempts, not Question attempts) a learner has available to complete a Test Mode Software Simulation. I have attached images of the triggers, the states of the object, and the variable used. The idea is that the learner has two attempts to pass the quiz, after which they have to exit the course and retake the full course in order to retake the quiz. I've added a variable reference on the slide and it is not changing from zero no matter how many times I retake the quiz. I used this tutorial to add the variable and triggers:   What am I missing? Any help is greatly appreciated!
