Variables on a layer reset when a slide is revisited
Jan 23, 2015
I am building a software simulation that uses data entry boxes to set variables. Once all of the variables we are training about are set correctly, the case is marked true and the trainee moves on to the next case. To get the tab order to match up with how our live system works, I needed to put several data entry boxes on a "First" layer that automatically opens when the timeline starts. Trainees move back and forth between screens entering different pieces of information that are stored as varaibles, but when the slide with the "First" layer is revisited it clears the varaibles on the "First" layer while the variables on the other layer stay (as expected). I have no idea what is causing this behavior and do not understand why only one layer of the slide is being affected.
Any help would be appreciated, I am quickly running out of ideas and could not find a similar problem listed in the community.
Attached screensots:
Problem 1 - Shows the fields on the "First" layer with data entered in two of them
Problem 2 - Shows data entered into other fields on the base layer
Problem 3 - Shows the data passed to another slide
Problem 4 - How the slide appears when you revisit it, all data appears to still be there
Problem 5 - Shows the data has dissappeared from the fields on the "First" layer
Problem 6 - How the slide appears when you revisit it a second time

Without seeing the trigger pane this is going to be really difficult to solve. Sounds like you either have triggers reseting the variables somewhere or you are reusing a variable which is resetting it.
Is there an easy way to copy the trigger pane for you to see? There are about 70 triggers on the slide (nothing like 8000, but still more than a screen grab can easily do).
I attached a shot of the triggers panel on the slide where the data is checked. That one is only three triggers long, and probably not where the problem is.
Can you post the slide?
I'm posting a smaller version of the file I've been building. The slide with the bad behavior is 2.2 (or its copies in 3.2 and 4.2). The full file is the same thing, just with more cases/scenes added
Thanks for the idea of reusing things. While I was not reusing a varaible, by deleting two triggers that opened the "First" layer (one on the base layer that opened it when the timeline started and one on the Charge and Point Layer when control was lost from a field) I got this behavior to stop. I have no idea why deleting those triggers changed how the variables were set, but the varaibles now carry back and forth between the slides correctly.
However, there is still a display problem which I believe is related. The data entry field next to Non-UTC initially displays at a size that I had set it at in the past but have since resized. The data stores in the field, but does not quite display a long number (Problem 8). When you tab all the way through the page and the control loses focus on the last field at the bottom, the display of that Non-UTC field shifts to the size I currently have it set at (Problem 9).
Is this display changing becuase of some sort of artifact or left over ghost layer? There is no reason why the shorter size should display anymore because it has been changed, yet it still is there. At least it has shifted from a functional issue to a display issue. Any suggestions on fixing this part of the problem?
