Variables that report # of questions

This seems like there must be some way to do this so I am going to ask in hopes that I get an answer from someone. I am trying to have a variable report the number of questions inside of a question bank. I realize that while in a question bank the number of questions is reported at the top, but the client wants the student to know how many questions are in the exam before they begin taking it. Is there a simple way of doing this with variables?

My thought was to create a number variable that would look at the exam and then create a text reference box that would simply display the value of the variable (or in this case the number of questions in the exam). Please help
