Variables & Triggers - Count function across slides

Jan 23, 2014

I am using the accordion template to show a process. I want my learners to have to view each section before they can advance to the next Scene.  Because this template is not made using layers, and is made using a series of 7 slides, i need to know how to count clicks on the tabs, so that when they reach the last slide and have clicked all the tabs it will allow a button to advance then to the next scene.

Some notes:

- I don't care what order they click and view each tab. I just need them to have clicked each tab before they advance to the next scene.

Hi Kari,

And welcome to the community!

There is a version of the template that uses layers which might make the process easier...so if you can switch to the layered model, I'd recommend that.  However, if you're thinking "Mike, I already built it this way...come on!", then another method would revolve around the use of a series of true/false variables.

The basic gist is to create a true/false variable for each slide/tab.  Let's say you set the initial state to "false" (in my mind I think, "false, they haven't visited this slide yet).  Then, on each slide you'd have a trigger to adjust the associated T/F variable to "true" when the timeline starts.  So when the learner visits that slide, it switches the variable.

I'm going to guess and say that the next button doesn't move the learner through the tabs, but serves to jump to the next scene?

If this is the case, then you could place a trigger on the next button to only advance if the variables are all True.

I'd have to see how you have it all set up to be sure, but this is one approach you could use...

I hope it helps get you off on the right foot, and again...welcome to the community!

Mike
