Variables work in preview but not when published.

Apr 23, 2013

Hello! I'm a new user and loving it! But, have hit a bit of a glitch - which is probably just a user deficiency... but I've got some variables on some slides in a course that help restrict navigation until all buttons are down or media complete etc and they work fine when I preview the course but when I publish it, they don't work and navigation is unrestricted.  Any ideas what I might have done wrong to have this happen?

So sorry about that! I forgot to switch the trigger order on the Back to Question layer on slide 1.22. That's a great reminder of how important trigger order is. :)

On the Back to Question layer on slide 1.22, use the up/down arrows in the Trigger Pane to switch the trigger order. The "hide layer" trigger should be on top, so that it happens first. If the "Jump to slide" trigger happens first, the "hide layer" trigger will not have a chance to actually hide the layer.

Hi,

I have another problem with my quiz.

On slide 1.10, the user has to read the note on layer 3 before being able to go to the next question (whether or not he had the right answer). For some reason, we don't have time to read the note and the slide advances without requiring clicking on the "continue" button.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi I have the same problem with the variables, the 'try again' and 'submit' buttons work when I get a wrong answer in the assessment during preview but doesn't work when I published it as web or SCORM. When I upload the web version to our institute's web server and the SCORM version to BlackBoard it doesn't work too.

Please help! I need it to work urgently by next Tuesday (Singapore time: Monday)!

Thank you!

This was outsourced and done by an external vendor so I am not sure why they do a result slide for every question in the assessment. I assume there is a final result slide since this was originally build for hosting on BlackBoard (published as a SCORM package) so that results could be track.

Hi Wendy, I see what you mean now. Some assessment questions were removed during modification, at least three of them but the result slides remains. So I republished and tested on Microsoft Edge and retrying while getting a wrong answer was no problem. I could click on the submit button on second attempt, but when doing this in Chrome and IE, it does not work.

Hi Leslie! Yes, It works fine on SCORM cloud which means the variables are working fine. I have republished and tested on Microsoft Edge and retrying while getting a wrong answer was not a problem. I could click on the submit button on second attempt, but when doing this in Chrome and IE, it does not work.

Hi Li,

What happens when you click "submit" on a second attempt in Chrome or IE? I tested on the latest version of Chrome for Mac - and answering wrong two times, I saw the feedback and the option to close - which returned me to your main question screen.

If you could share a bit more what you'd like or expect to see, that'll help us with troubleshooting!

The latest file, LO3 for troubleshooting is this one. I also have the same problem with LO2a, b and c. It is always on the second attempt that nothing happens when clicking the submit button.

Another bit of guidance related to this topic: If your trigger works in preview, but not in final publish, it can be related to your grouped object. I'm not sure the exact cause, but some groupings don't work properly as a button/trigger set up once published.

Try ungrouping your object/button, rebuild it more simply (less layers, eliminate groups within groupings), and try again. It worked for me.

I have a file with a similar problem. All the variables are correct and work in preview, but when published to any format (web, Review, SCORM), strange behavior happens. A slide auto-advances, even though there is no auto-advance trigger. It actually used to work before and then stopped. The only advance trigger is upon clicking Next.
