Vertical scroll bar and Web Object scroll bar not working

Jun 30, 2014

I have the latest version of Storyline (5: 1401.2415). When I publish (launch in a new browser window) and use an iPad in the Blackboard 9 LMS, the scroll bar for a scrolling panel is missing in HTML5 output and also web objects scroll was also missing in HTML5 output. I tested in Safari and Chrome, have the mobile app and have published with many different player and publish settings (with/without mobile player etc) trying to fix the issue but can't seem to?

Hi V and welcome to Heroes!

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you've had - and you mentioned that the scroll bar was missing, but in mobile Safari which is the recommended browser for HTML5 viewing on the iPad the scroll bar only becomes visible once you begin scrolling. You'll need to use the two finger scroll method detailed here.

Please let us know if you need anything else!

Hi Ashley,

I get a 'No Content' message when I use the mobile player publishing setting so I can't use it for my course.

When I publish with no mobile player for iPad unfortunately there is no two finger scroll within articulate; the web object or scrolling panel, it just moves the whole browser page. I can type in the text box provided in the web object so it is accessing it but just won't scroll (also the same problem in the Chrome browser).

I also noticed that the large button I created will only register in a very small spot, so people try to click on it several times before it works.

Could this all be related to the mobile player setting?

If so do you know why the mobile player option won't work in Blackboard LMS? I can't test it with any other LMS unfortunately.

Hi V,

For your LMS to run the courses within the mobile player, you'd need to have a LMS that supports Tin Can API as described here.

In regards to the other issues you mentioned, I haven't seen the two finger scroll just move the browser window, although I know that the two finger scroll is difficult to use. Could you share the .story file with us and I could also test it out at SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing SCORM content.

Thanks Ashley,

The file is attached for testing.

With my PC - In the LMS I linked to HTML5 and the text doesn't show on the second exercise (just a blank area, first exercise shows fine), when I loaded it as a SCORM package in the LMS and allow the browser to view the web object the browser page closes. I can't get it to work on the PC with those settings so there was no point trying to get it to work on a mobile device.

At this stage only linking to the HTML file on a PC works.

Testing it would be great, it will help me to see if it is Blackboard causing the problems or my settings.

Thank you again,

Vicki

Hi V,

Thanks for the .story file. If playing it from an LMS, you'll always want to ensure you've published for LMS and using the entire contents of the published output folder to load it up within your LMS. I wasn't sure looking at this if you were referring to the scrolling within your scroll panel or the web object itself?

So I took a look at your file, and tested it a few different ways:

Version with web objects launching in slide (SCORM Cloud)

Version with Web objects launching in new browser (SCORM Cloud)

Flash and HTML5 version of Web published version, web object in slide.

Since there isn't an HTML5 link from within SCORM Cloud, I used the HTML5 version for the web published version, and within Chrome on my PC both scrolling panels worked as expected. Can you test these versions out and let me know how it behaves on your end?
