Video/ aspect ratio advice Storyline 1
Dec 17, 2014
Hi,
I am in the process of inserting video into a Storyline file. The video is going to sit on a page set to 720x540, it is sitting amongst other content on the page and will need to be viewed on the page so I wondered if anyone could recommend the optimum aspect ratio I should go for? It was originally shot in 1920 x 1080. In addition once the session is published it will be uploaded, as a SCORM file to a LMS. Normally we load videos directly onto our LMS and therefore compress them prior to upload. I have had this video compressed, however, in Storyline 1 the published output is unusable as it is so pixelated. I have tried to customise the settings to best quality, however, it makes no difference. Can anyone recommend custom compression settings or video file size?

Hello Emily
You can replace the video in the published folder with a less compressed version. You just have to give it the same - weird- name that Storyline gave to it.
Hi Emily,
If you don't want to have the compressed video that Storyline 1 creates, you could replace it as Pierre mentioned - and Mike Enders shared some steps in this thread:
Starting with a high quality MP4 source file that you've dropped into Storyline.
1. Publish your project
2. Identify the compressed/published MP4 in the Story_Content folder
3. Drop your high quality source .mp4 into the Story_Content folder
4. Rename your high quality source the same as compressed/published MP4
5. Delete compressed/published MP4

Hi Thanks for your suggestions. I have already tried this, the trouble is that I am then unable to upload the file to the LMS after I have re-zipped it.
Hi Emily,
Since it's a modification of the published output, I'm not sure what else I can offer in terms of assistance with this method - but are you receiving an error message when trying to upload the file? You may want to try at SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing SCORM content to see if it's how the file is being zipped or when the file is loaded up to the LMS.
