Video auto plays on slide when returning even though it's set to resume saved state.
Apr 05, 2017
I'll try to be succinct.
I have a course that has videos on each slide, and also a HUD type layout on each slide. On the HUD, there's 2 buttons that will jump to a resource slide (for the user to reference throughout the course) and then they can click "back" and the trigger is, "Jump to previous slide."
I have the slides with video set to "resume saved state." The HUD is unavailable until the video finishes playing. So the timeline starts, the video plays, finishes, then the HUD comes up and the user can either just hit next and continue, or click a HUD option, then return to the slide, at which point, the slide should be just as they left it.
The problem: all the objects on the slide ARE just as they were, but the video replays. I can set up a T/F variable to work around this, but I have 60+ slides with video and already have a lot of triggers, so doing a new variable and trigger for every slide is just crazy.
I've already tried changing the video play options from "auto play" to "play when triggered" and setting a "play media [video1] when timeline starts" trigger, but that produces the exact same problem. I even tried lightboxing the slide the HUD jumps to, but when you close the lightbox, you get the same result.

The point of resume saved state is that the timeline doesn't restart, so in theory, play when timeline starts should work.
Can you attach a couple of slides here so someone can look at them?
In theory, yes. In actuality, nope. It still restarts. Here's a sample. I know this file is nearly 50mb, but it's only 3 slides. It's because there's embedded video.
I can't read it. Maybe somebody with 360 can come along and help.
Update: It seems that when using the lighbox trigger instead of the "jump to slide" trigger, that if you wait for the timeline to finish before clicking "notes," then the video won't replay after closing the lightbox. This is not a solution to the problem, but at least something that "works."
Hey there Boone,
Thanks for sharing your file with me. I can see how the video replays on slides 1.1 and 1.2, even though the slide is set to "resume saved state." I'd like to have our Support Engineers take a closer look at this, so I've opened a case on your behalf (01049699). Keep an eye on your inbox for an email from Support@Articulate.com. They'll reach out to you shortly!
Thanks, Alyssa! I did get an email from them.
I am facing the same problem with a project where videos replay on some slides even though they are set to resume saved state on revisits. On a few of the slides it works on others it doesn't. Really strange. Did you come up with a solution to this problem?
Hey Rene,
Sorry you're running into that! It looks like the issue Boone reported above is a bug on our radar for Storyline 360.
Would you mind sharing your .story file with us to confirm if you're running into the same? You can add it as an attachment to a comment here, or share it with our Support Engineers privately right over here.
Thanks for reaching out about this!
I managed to solve it by using variables and triggers on every slide. Big
job, but it almost did the job. There are still a few videos that manage to
start for a micro second before being paused by the trigger. Guess it is
because of several triggers on each slide, that needs to be checked upon
entry of a slide. But at least it works now. But the “resume saved state”
does not work for videos. It is a huge project to share. Can you manage to
look at the issue without it?

Hi Rene,
If you think it's too large to share here in ELH or send to our Support Engineers you could also share just a few slides that showcase the problem.
Hi Ashley,
Thanks. I will create a support case and upload part of my project there and
refer to this community case ID :-)

Same thing here. My fix was to create an identical copy of the base layer minus the video and trigger to show that layer once the media (video) completed. From there they could navigate to the other layers, return to my base layer copy without triggering the video to play again.
I appreciate you chiming in and sharing the solution that worked for you Michael.
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes by the way :)
Great news, everyone!
We just released Update 27 for Storyline 360. This release includes a fix for the issue where videos would start over when revisiting slides even if they were set to resume saved states.
To see what this version has to offer, follow these steps to update your software. If there's anything else I can answer, I'll be here!
I'm still experiencing the issue - is the bug definitely fixed?
Hi Jana!
We launched a fix for this bug in Storyline 360 Update 27. If you're experiencing the problem in a recent update, we'd love to take a closer look!
Would you mind sharing the affected Storyline project? You can send it to us through this private link. We'll review the video and let you know our findings!
