Video Controls not working outside of production

Jun 19, 2020

Hi there,

I'm updating an existing course by making some changes to a video. In the course the Seekbar is disabled. I'm using the Video controls instead, showing the Video Controls below the course.

When using the Video controls in production (i.e. within the scene), I can pause, cycle forward and back using the video control bar. However, when I enter "Preview" or Publish (attempted LMS where I require it and CD as a test), while I can pause/play, I can no longer cycle forward or back using controls. This is a problem not just for the video I edited, but for all other videos also in that course.

Checking back with my published course within the LMS that was created 2 years ago, there is no problem with those videos, the Video Control works perfectly.

I don't want to use the Seekbar as it does not show the completed time to allow a user to jump forward to a specific time easily. Usually I'd just upload the video to Youtube or similar and then embed, however these videos contain business information.

I then tried starting a new course with nothing but a video and have the same issue occurring.

Thoughts?

Hi J,

Thanks for reaching out and describing what you're running into! It sounds very similar to a bug we had recorded in Storyline 360 Update 37:

Bug: Users are unable to click or scrub the seekbar of the built-in video controls in Preview and Published output.

You can check what version of Storyline you have by going to the Help tab, and clicking on About Storyline. The good news is, this bug was fixed post-update 37, so all you need to do is update to the latest version in the desktop app!

If you are already on the latest version, feel free to connect with a support engineer, and they can take a closer look at your file and see what's causing the issue.
