Video download option in Chrome

Sep 25, 2017

I am developing training for a customer that includes some video. I have tested the module on two computers each running the same version of Chrome. On one computer, the seekbar gives the learner the option to download the video. On the other computer, the seekbar does not give the download option. I do not want the download option on any video included in the training. Does anyone know how to fix this? I attached the images of both players for reference.

It’s actually the same course. I’m just showing it on two different computers. I loaded the video and chose to show the controls under the video. It just looks different on the “download” image and I’m not sure why.

Hi there, Jill.  In Chrome v55 and later, the download option shows with the video controls in your Storyline 2 courses.

Can you confirm if your course is built with Storyline 2?

Are you seeing a difference in the versions of Chrome on those machines?  You can go to your browser settings to find out:

Let me know if our documentation doesn't match up to what you're seeing on your end.

We encounter the same problem. Does anybody know is in Storyline 3, this problem also can occur?

And is there a workaround? I can build a custom player, but with the big disadvantage that you cannot scroll through the animation.

I want the students to be able to scroll the animation but I do not want them to be able to download the video.

Hello Ashley,

First, my apologies for my English, it's not my native language (I'm Dutch), but I do the best I can.

Below a screenshot showing you a multiple choice slide during review. You see two answers are scrambled. This only occurs in Internet Explorer, and completely random. That makes it very difficult for us to sort out the cause of this issue.

Do you have previous experience with this issue?

Best regards,

Hi Ben,

No apologies necessary and your English seems fine!

The attachment didn't come through when you replied via email but your signature did! You'll want to visit this forum discussion page and use the Add Attachment button to upload it here.

You can also edit out your contact information from your post if you'd like!

From there I can take a look and I'd love to know what version of IE you're using too.

Thanks Ben for that screenshot - do you know if you're viewing the HTML5 output in Internet Explorer? It's not a supported browser for Storyline 2's HTML5 output - so that could explain some of the oddness.

An easy way to spot if you're viewing the HTML5 is to see if Flash is disabled in your browser or look to the end of the published course URL, you'll see either story.html for Flash or story_html5.html for HTML5.

If you want to share the .story file with me, I'm also happy to test it in a few browsers as well!

Unfortunately I can't upload a file but I can upload a screen shot. We are keeping a running document of all the problems we are finding with our course conversions to 360. Our company started with Storyline 1, then 2 and now 360, so some courses have buttons that were initially created with a Storyline 1 template. We found that this particular button issue was due to a Storyline 1 template.
