Video download option in Chrome

I am developing training for a customer that includes some video. I have tested the module on two computers each running the same version of Chrome. On one computer, the seekbar gives the learner the option to download the video. On the other computer, the seekbar does not give the download option. I do not want the download option on any video included in the training. Does anyone know how to fix this? I attached the images of both players for reference.

The "no download" pic shows storyline seekbar below the video, and the seekbar in the "download" pic isn't the storyline seekbar. Maybe this is the reason why download option is available?
It’s actually the same course. I’m just showing it on two different computers. I loaded the video and chose to show the controls under the video. It just looks different on the “download” image and I’m not sure why.

Hi there, Jill. In Chrome v55 and later, the download option shows with the video controls in your Storyline 2 courses.
Can you confirm if your course is built with Storyline 2?
Are you seeing a difference in the versions of Chrome on those machines? You can go to your browser settings to find out:
Let me know if our documentation doesn't match up to what you're seeing on your end.
I discovered the exact same problem yesterday. Only I used Studio 13 to publish my module. However, on various computers with THE SAME version of Chrome, some showed the download option and others did not. I still cannot figure out what the difference is that is causing this but it is specific to Chrome
Hmm, interesting find Kelly! Specifically what version of Chrome were you testing on?
If you don't mind sharing a link to your published output, we can help with that testing.
Allyssa Gomez, I have the same issue. I do not want our end-users (who are using Chrome browsers) to download the videos we have embedded in our Storyline 2 modules. Did you find a solution for this issue? In out testing, it only seems to be the Chrome browser. Unfortunately, it is also Chrome on tablets.
I apologize for losing this thread.
Yes, the courses are all built in SL2. And everything I have tested it on has been v55 and later.
The only solution I found was to disable the controls from the video. This took away the option for them to download it.
We encounter the same problem. Does anybody know is in Storyline 3, this problem also can occur?
And is there a workaround? I can build a custom player, but with the big disadvantage that you cannot scroll through the animation.
I want the students to be able to scroll the animation but I do not want them to be able to download the video.
HI Ben,
Are you also using Storyline 2? Our team noted that this didn't occur in Storyline 360 or Storyline 3. If you have an example where that is happening, I'd want to take a look to see if something changed.
Often it's a function of the browser - but happy to look into it and confirm!
Yes, we use SL2.
The download issue is sort of solved. Our team inserts a figure on the download button, so it is not visible anymore. But
We encounter some more problems, like the scramble of answers during review.
Is this something, that doesn't occur anymore in SL3 or 360?
Hi Ben,
Could you share an example of the answer scramble you're seeing? The .story or even some screenshots would help me narrow down what you're seeing. Is that also only visible in Chrome?
Hello Ashley,
First, my apologies for my English, it's not my native language (I'm Dutch), but I do the best I can.
Below a screenshot showing you a multiple choice slide during review. You see two answers are scrambled. This only occurs in Internet Explorer, and completely random. That makes it very difficult for us to sort out the cause of this issue.

Do you have previous experience with this issue?

Hi Ben,
No apologies necessary and your English seems fine!
The attachment didn't come through when you replied via email but your signature did! You'll want to visit this forum discussion page and use the Add Attachment button to upload it here.
You can also edit out your contact information from your post if you'd like!
From there I can take a look and I'd love to know what version of IE you're using too.
Hello Ashley,
I attached the screenshot and the full IE version is 11.0.9600.78837
Best regards,
Ben Brink
Thanks Ben for that screenshot - do you know if you're viewing the HTML5 output in Internet Explorer? It's not a supported browser for Storyline 2's HTML5 output - so that could explain some of the oddness.
An easy way to spot if you're viewing the HTML5 is to see if Flash is disabled in your browser or look to the end of the published course URL, you'll see either story.html for Flash or story_html5.html for HTML5.
If you want to share the .story file with me, I'm also happy to test it in a few browsers as well!
Hello Ashley, We are indeed using the HTML5 output, this is because using this option in Chrome will prevent resizing of the window.
No need to take further action, I think, in the near future, we will change to SL3 or SL360.
Awesome Ben, and if you have any questions about upgrading to Storyline 3 or 360, please reach out to our Sales team! They're happy to help.
I also need some help. I have an embedded video named WR.mp4 in my timeline already. I go to "Insert Video from Website" but I don't know the correct code to add. I know I need to add controlslist="nodownload" but don't know the surrounding code. I can't attach my file due to company restrictions.
Hi Christine!
Thanks for chiming in here. What version of Storyline are you using?
If you're using Storyline 2, you'll need to disable the video controls in Storyline before publishing. This will remove the video download option in Chrome.
This problem shouldn't happen if you're using Storyline 360 or Storyline 3.
This particular course was made in Storyline 2.
Alyssa do you know if courses that were transitioned to 360 will fix the video problem? We are not rebuilding courses as we move them to 360 so some courses that have been built from older templates are having some style/button issues.
Hi Christine!
That's a great question. Upgrading the course to Storyline 360 will remove the option for video download.
Can you tell me more about the style/button issues that you're seeing? Do you have a sample file you can share with me so I can take a closer look? You can attach it right here to a new thread comment.
Unfortunately I can't upload a file but I can upload a screen shot. We are keeping a running document of all the problems we are finding with our course conversions to 360. Our company started with Storyline 1, then 2 and now 360, so some courses have buttons that were initially created with a Storyline 1 template. We found that this particular button issue was due to a Storyline 1 template.
Yikes, that doesn't look good! So this problem happened when you upgraded the file from Storyline 1 to Storyline 360, is that correct?
Have you tried upgrading the file to Storyline 2 first, then to Storyline 360? I'm curious to see if you get different results that way.
Alyssa, I have upgraded modules from Storyline 2 to Storyline 360 and am publishing as a video and I also am experiencing the issue of having a download option that we do not wish to have. Do you have a suggestion to work around this issue yet?
Best,
Brynne
