Video Guildelines for Publishing in Storyline

Feb 26, 2013

Hello,

I have an eLearning module I created in Storyline. When I insert a video clip and publish it, the video is a poor quality, yet when I view the video clip through Windows Media Player, it's crystal clear. I've tried inserting as .AVI, .MOV, .WMV, and .MP4 (recommended) and even changed the quality settings as suggested on the blog. Is this a hiccup with Storyline?  If it's helpful, the original file was an AVCHD video. The slide size was 768 x 576.  There are only two video clips...an intro slide and conclusion slide...not large files at all.  I searched the blogs and tried everything that's been suggested...changing the file quality to a higher level, etc. Still doesn't change the quality of the video after publishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks much!

Hi Deborah,

A little confused why creating a video of that type of video wouldn't work, but I suppose you have your reasons No problem!

It may simply be a case of compression. Here's how Storyline encodes movies you insert into your courses, based on the file format of the videos and the publishing options you choose:

AVI, MOV and WMV file types will all be converted, so if you're using those, you're going to see some compression. With the MP4, you may see a little as well. What you may want to try doing is converting the file to SWF, or FLV (alpha channel). These formats are not converted, so it may retain more of the quality of the original video.
