Video is not playing.

Jan 14, 2015

I have a youtube video that is not playing.  It is published on the web and states that it is not supported locally.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Peter,

You'll want to test within the intended publish environment instead of testing locally.

If you don't have access to a web server, here are a few free options to consider:

  • Tempshare: This is a free service provided by Articulate for testing Storyline content. Note: Uploaded files will be deleted after 10 days.
  • Amazon S3: Amazon S3 offers free hosting with generous usage limits. If you go over your limit, you'll be charged a graduated fee.
  • Dropbox: Place your published output in the Public folder in your Dropbox account to share it with others.
  • Google Drive: Change the story.html file to index.html and set the sharing permissions to Public. Here's how.

I have a dropbox and google drive.  When I published it to my dropbox it is saves as code.  When I try to open it either nothing shows up o it is just a bunch of code.  My company plans to purchase this product but this is the last day of my trial and I need to be able to share this with the management team.  Everything works perfect when I preview it after publishing.

Hi Peter,

I'm sorry to hear that the difficulty continues. You're publishing for web correct? You'll want to make sure you follow the directions here. In regards to uploading it to Google drive, are you following the directions in that blog post above?

If that's still not working, you may want to try Tempshare just to confirm that everything is ok with the published file - as that's a very easy upload - just zip it from the publish successful window and then if using Google Chrome as your browser, drag the zipped file into the designated area.

Hi Peter,

Looks like we were posting at the same time - you don't want to publish directly to Dropbox, but place the published output in your public Dropbox folder. You'll need to include all the files in the output folder and then you'll want to use the story.html file to get the public link for sharing.

I'd suggest using Tempshare to share the set up with management and if you need a trial extension, please feel free to connect with our Sales team.
