Video loading throughout course

Mar 09, 2021

Hi all,

we have a project where we show a video on a slide. When we switch to another slide to show learners a quiz question from the storyline template (e.g. freeform question etc.) and then return to our video slide, it seems the video has to be completely loaded again by the course. This results in a bad user experience as the video stutters and waits to be loaded (although it has already been loaded once before we switched to the question slide) when returning to the video slide. Is there any method to prevent this, e.g. keep the video file loaded and ready to be played regardless of switching to another slide? Thanks for your help! Cheers, Jannis

Thanks for your reply, Walt!

Lightboxing the question slide actually solves the problem mentioned. But because the lightbox always comes in a smaller size (which appears to be fixed), it somewhat introduces a new problem.

Do you -- or does anybody -- know of a way to change the size of the lightbox such that the lightbox has the same size as the "normal" non-lightboxed slides? I'm somewhat sure that it should be possible using javascript, much like it is also possible to remove the "x" to close the lightbox that standardly shows up in the top right corner of the screen whenever a lightbox is open. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help us out here!

(The typically suggested solution of using a layer instead of a lightbox won't do the trick as we require to lightbox a question-slide.)

Your preferred solution is smart, but alas won't do the trick in our specific project.

Cheers,

Stephan
