Video not playing for client
Jul 24, 2014
Hello,
I have published a module for a client to review, and everything in the module functions for them except for one video. The video is an .mp4 located on a 2nd layer. When the client goes to the "story_content" folder and clicks on the video it plays for them, so it's not that they don't have the add-ins to play .mp4's. It does not appear to be an issue with the video not playing until it's loaded because it doesn't play once it's been open for a while. The file is located on the clients shared folder, and I've tried publishing it to both CD and Web, neither work.
It should be noted that from my computer (the computer it was developed on), I can play it from their shared drive no problem.
Any insight would be appreciated,
Laura

Hi Laura,
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
To me, it sounds like it may be how the client is viewing the course. First, you mentioned this is on a network drive. It's highly recommended that users not view content on a network drive, whether it be project files or published files.
You can certainly share CD published output with your client if they need to view it locally, but it needs to be on their hard drive, extracted and they'll want to run the .exe file.
If you publish for web, you'll want to upload to a web server or an LMS. If you view a published Storyline presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Please let us know how it goes!

Christine, I never actually knew about the Tempshare server, so thanks very much for this nugget of information.
Happy to share the nuggets, Joshua! :)
It's a pretty handy server, especially if you do a lot of testing with your projects.
Have a great day!
