Video pause / timeline off-track

Mar 24, 2016

I have created a course within Storyline 2 which has a video.  I have linked captions to the video which are triggered to play at the appropriate time on the timeline.

For some reason if the video is paused, the captions fall off track and no longer matches the verbiage played within the video.

Can anyone help?  Here's a few things I think are important to note:

1.  The video and audio are one file - not separate

2.  I have attempted to remove the video player bar at the bottom however I have found that the video can pause and play if clicked directly despite not having the player bar.

I have done that many times.

For example : I have a video playing with captions that are triggered to appear at given times using "Show layer when timeline reaches X".

When the caption appears, the video is paused.

I then prompt the user to click the caption to continue and the video resumes.

The video is on a base layer, and every caption is on it's own layer.

Two things you need to do :

1. For every caption layer, click on the cog wheel and check "Pause timeline on base layer". Make sure "Hide objects on base layer is not checked"

2. Each caption layer has a trigger that goes "Hide this layer when user clicks on <CAPTION>"

So the caption appears, video is paused. Click the caption, video resumes and each subsequent caption stays in sync. When a caption appears, everything pauses. If the video pauses, everything pauses.

The base layer should have the option set to "When revisiting : Reset to initial state"

I see how you did it.

I created a variable and two conditional triggers with a command to pause the timeline of the slide, but even though the variable changes and all conditions are met, the timeline does not actually pause and the captions keep going, even though everything is on the same timeline because it's all on the same slide.

Can't figure it out.

I display the variable on top of the video to make sure it does what it is supposed to do, but the timeline does not actually pauses. I would have to spend quite a lot of time that I unfortunately don't have to figure out something else.

So I can'T help you any further.

If anyone wants to take a look at my failed solution, here's the file. It could be just a slide option that I forgot or don't know about.

Hi, Latoya -- Thanks so much for your patience, but unfortunately, I don't have any additional recommendations for adjustments that could be made to help you find improvement, so I would like our Support Engineers to investigate further. I have created a ticket on your behalf and submitted it a moment ago, so one of our engineers will be reaching out as soon as possible.
