Video quality issue

Jan 21, 2014

I've got an issue with a course that is uploaded to the LMS. This course contains large videos (111 MB being the largest, 23MB, 19MB, 13MB, 7MB and 4MB) and  and I had used the workaround of replacing the published videos with the original ones to maintain the quality.

Now it takes almost 10 mins for the first video (111 MB) to load when it is played through the LMS. The next 3 videos are loaded instantly. Then there is a wait of around 3 minutes for the next one (13 MB) and the last one is loaded instantly.

I'm baffled as there is no pattern to follow. The video of 23 MB was loaded instantly whereas the wait was for the 13 MB video.

Is there a work around for these videos to be load quickly on the LMS?

I certainly wouldn't want the learners to sit around waiting for the videos.

Hi Liza,

They do sound like large videos. I'm curious, when you were experiencing quality issues (before replacing with the original video files), were you seeing the same loading times?

Also, have you tested the project outside of your current LMS to see if the videos load faster?

I would recommend that you try using SCORM Cloud, first.

Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days. There is also a file max here, so you may need to cut down to just the videos or a single video to test the load speed.

You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

Load times will vary depending on internet speed, video size and the server itself. If you're replacing the videos, you're providing the raw, uncompressed video. This is great for quality, but the loading time will be different than the videos produced with Storyline's compression.
