video starts to replay with a shape mask

Sep 04, 2020

Hi

I have a video playing in my slide, and it stops on the last frame. I added a transparent shape in a layer above the video to prevent it replaying / pausing etc on click.

But now, when clicking anywhere on the slide, the video jumps back to the first frame, although then does not play. It's as if the click event triggers first, and is then cancelled, so the video doesn't play, but it does restart.

As near as I can tell, this is some sort of artifact from the "don't play video without user interaction" problem. See this discussion https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/play-icon-displaying-instead-of-my-first-slide-urgent-please-help for more information. I thought that was a browser problem, but it looks like preview is taking part, too. When you preview, the first click jumps to the beginning of the video. It doesn't play, because the video already got the order to play when the slide started.

Slides 1 and 2 show one solution, although if you don't click slide 1, it automatically jumps to slide 2. If you reach slide 2 by clicking, everything works. If you reach it by the automatic advance, it doesn't. Slide 3 has another solution.

Hi Walt

Right, that's interesting. It's very strange. If you put any slide at all before the slide with the video, and use a link to start the video slide, it works fine. But if you jump to that slide automatically, or start on that slide, it resets the video when you click the mask, and behaves differently. The behavior varies depending on the slide being first or not, and how you arrive at it, with click or time trigger. So why would that be?
