Video stucks while the slide runs (online)

Feb 27, 2013

Hi,

I've created a slide synchronizing call outs and texts with a video.

Running the published version from my PC it works perfectly. However, when it goes online the video stucks while the call outs and texts run correctly.

The video is a 1MB file and the internet connection speed is about 500Kb/s (approx. 60-70Kb/s download.).

Question is:

Is there any means to make the video download first to then start running the timeline?

Any other suggestion will be very wellcome.

Thanks

Marcelo

Hi Marcelo,

To make playback as smooth as possible, your published Storyline courses will preload content in the following manner:

  1. Assets are loaded for the first slide (or the current slide when resuming) to allow the course to begin playing right away.
  2. Assets are then loaded for the next three slides to prevent playback delays.
  3. Assets are then loaded for the remainder of the course.

Storyline progressively streams videos (except SWF files) in published content.  This means users will not have to wait for each video to fully download before it begins to play. See the article above for more information on this.

What type of video are you using in the course? If it's a SWF, it should play right away. If it's an MP4, be sure that it's properly formatted. If it's not, as the article above explains, users may experience a long delay while the video downloads and this may cause the issue you mentioned.

If you're still unable to get the video timing just right for your course, we'd be happy to take a look at the file and provide some additional suggestions.

You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your reply.
The video source I'm using is a 1GB .mov file which turns into a 1Mb .mp4 file when Storyline imports it.
I thought the Storyline video encoder was already set to stream the videos.
I've tryed to use the qt-faststart.exe but the software couldn't find the atom moov file.??
The .flv version works fine, however, .mp4 looks better.
I'll send the storyline file for the support team analisys.

Thanks

Marcelo
