Hi,
I have a course that has embedded Mp4 videos that are having a high volume in the preview mode. And the volume of videos are getting low after publishing the course to WEB. Even I tried to increase the volume by editing the videos in the Storyline itself but no luck.
Does anyone know if there is a way to boost the volume of an embedded videos in the published files/ do I need to do any settings after importing video into the course?
Appreciate your help..!!
Thanks,
Jyothi

Hi Jyothi! Have you tried to adjust the video properties as shown in this tutorial?
Hi,
I have the same issue, it looks like it's a Storyline problem.
Only some of the videos I received to integrate in a course have this issue.
Videos are fine when played outside Storyline, they are fine when Previewing inside Storyline but the volume goes so down after Publishing that no sound can be heard in the published course.
Multiple formats have been tried. What's the recommanded settings for video imports ?
Any ideas ?
Thanks.
Hi lms01,
I don't see any additional replies from Jyothi - so I'm curious to know more about your set up. You mentioned some videos work fine and some don't, is there any difference between them? How they were recorded, file type, etc.?
If the videos are not playing correctly you may also want to check into the items mentioned here. The video types you'll want to import are detailed here.
I saw a similar issue recently - although it was determined to not be Storyline, although I don't know what the resolution was.
Please let us know how it goes after checking into those items.
Hi Ashley,
I'm not the one who record the videos. I'm not a video man myself.
A video from my new cameraman has the problem but we cannot figure out what's the issue. The Articulate team is able to reproduce the problem without a clue on what's going on.
The video has been recorded with a camera which output .mps files. Thoses files are then just exported as .mov, .mp4, .mpg ... All file formats have the same problem in Storyline.
Why it is likely to be an issue related to Storyline but maybe also to the way videos are recorded ? Simply because those videos play fine outside Storyline.
I have tried to upload it to Youtube, then download an mp4 export and the problem still only occurs a Storyline published course.
To reduce the number of factors creating this issue, I do my tests only with the mp4 export of the raw video. I mean the video hasn't been edited in any software.
Video people, could you please tell me if there is anything wrong with my video ?
Many thanks.
Philippe
Hi Phillippe,
Have you been working on this in a case as well? Could you share the case number with me so that I can look into what our team has already tested and tried?
Thanks!
Hi Ashley,
the Articulate team invited me to submit the raw video and the .story to check it up.
Please have a look at the case #00406768 .
The video format doesn't seem to be the issue, I have tried several with same result.
Many thanks,
Philippe with a single L
Hi Philippe,
Thanks for sharing the case number. I see you're working with Regil who is doing some additional testing of the video and elements, so I'll continue to follow along in his testing.
I am also having this problem with the published version of a video with audio. I followed the tutorial listed by Leslie and increased the volume from medium to high but there was no change in the volume, even during preview. I have increased the audio several times by right click on the audio file and using the editor, I am well over 200% of the volume. The diagram of the audio file changes so it looks like it's increased the volume, but when you listen to the audio there is no change, it's still too low.
I am just using an audio file I recorded through Storyline, using an ATR microphone.
Hi Michelle,
Are the audio and video in separate files or a part of the same file?
It looks like in Phillipe's case, it was reported to our QA team that the audio is gone all together when inserted into Storyline - but that doesn't sound like the same issue you're experiencing. Are you able to share a copy of your .story file here with us?
Hi Michele,
the issue discussed here is related to inserting a video file (with audio included in it), is that your case ?
If yes, the Articulate QA team still did not provide us a solution. A temporary fix is to publish the course, then replace the generated video files by the original ones.
Thanks for the replies, Ashley and Philippe. This sounds ridiculous, but the problem was actually my headphones. There's a slight break in the wire and that was affecting me listening to the playback. When I unplugged the headphones, the volume was fine.
Hi Michelle,
Not ridiculous at all - I've heard of other issues before where the headphones or a microphone wasn't working properly overall and that caused issues - so I'm happy to hear you were able to resolve the issue.
Has a resolution been found for this issue? I'm suddenly experiencing this problem. Video works/sounds fine outside of Storyline 2 (most recent update), video sounds fine previewing in SL2, video almost completely loses all volume/sound after publish. Video is .mp4. Never had this issue with any other .mp4 before.
EDIT: Same resolution as Michele. Audio sounded and worked fine while previewing but I had to "jiggle" headphone wires for published out put. Weird.
Hi Jim,
What happens if you remove the headphones and just play with the built in audio? As Michele mentioned it seems her headphones were in need of a little love and without the headphones it played fine.
Has a resolution been found? Related to this, Storyline is not recognizing volume edits I make to audio (audio that I recorded onto the slide in Storyline, using the record audio function). Additionally, the volume level of my audio when I record audio at the same time as a screen capture is different than the volume level of my audio when I record audio as standalone AFTER the screen capture. Very frustrating. Any feedback or resolution tips you may have, I would greatly appreciate!!!
Hi C,
This discussion is quite a bit older, so I'm not sure if the audio issues described earlier here would be the same as yours. I'd love to get to the bottom of your odd experience with the audio volume not being consistent though.
Can you tell me what version of Storyline you're using? Also, are you hearing this audio difference in preview, the published output, both?
Hi Ashley,
I am also having this issue with video volume being more varied within Storyline vs. the original video files. have there been any updates to this recently?
Thanks,
Anne
One tip is to be sure not to optimize the audio during publish. I always disable that option on the publish options window.
Hi Anne! We haven't had any recent updates that address video volume. This user guide article describes the quality settings that Jerry mentions.
If you're seeing (or in this case, hearing) something unexpected, we can have a closer look!
