Video won't replay after reaching end

Jun 26, 2014

Hello,

I have a number of videos imported into Storyline and none of them will replay. See attached for example.

To reproduce:

1) Play video to the end (or first skip towards the end with progress bar, and then let it play until end)

2) Click the "play" button

3) Nothing happens. You have to physically click into the progress bar to get the video to play, which isn't very intuitive.

Is this a known issue or something I can possibly fix?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Allison,

First, I'm afraid you've shared the published output for your project file. It may be best to share the .STORY file for your project. The only way we could test the files you sent, would be to upload them to a server. At that point, all we could do is view the course, but not how it's set up.

Second, are you clicking the "Play" or "Replay" button? If your video has been inserted into the slide (without any triggers) and it's playing with the timeline, you'll want to click the Replay button on the right-hand side of the bar.

If that doesn't help, again, you're welcome to share the project file and we'll take a look :)

Thanks!

Hi Allisun,

Thank you very much for the file and the additional information!

The problem here is that there isn't a Replay feature in the video controls. I was under the impression you were using the Storyline seekbar, which includes this function.

The first option would be to use the seekbar, instead of the video controls.

Another option would be to add a trigger that will play the video when the video is clicked.

And a third option would be to create a custom Replay button on the slide, or over the video. The problem with using the video controls to skip through the video here is that you cannot place the replay button at the end of the timeline so that it only shows when the video completes. So it might be a good idea to keep it visible at all times.

I also noticed that the video's timeline actually ends around 43 seconds, but it's spanning 213 seconds. I cut this down, just in case this wasn't intentional.

I provided each example in a modified version of your project. Keep in mind that some of the player elements will be a little different due to the changes, and you'll want to access the additional slides through the menu tab.

I hope this helps!

Thank you Christine, this is a great help. I will be able to figure out where to go from here with these options.

If one hasn't been written yet, a blog post from Tom that outlines the differences between using video controls vs. seekbar and when it's best to use one or the other would also be helpful.
