I don't believe this is currently possible for the Volume Controller. If you haven't already, you may want to consider submitting a feature request. I can definitely see how this would appeal to course developers and users, I may just submit one myself, as well.
Having said all of that, however, there may be some unsupported methods that other community members have found for this. If that's the case, hopefully someone can share some tips or suggestions.
