I dont think there is a way to turn the hotspot selecter off. It is part of a hotspot question. That way the user will always know where / what they have selected.
It is not specified to the wrong area. It shows the same for the right area.
Thanks Justus! It is a problem for my training because I am creating more of a test scenario so if the user selects the wrong area, they will receive an incorrect popup. This means that the hotspot selector looks a bit strange. (Also I am not a great fan of the graphic that is used...)
If there is anyone who has a potential idea for how I can disable this feature or a possible workaround I would be interested to hear.

Can you share the slide you are having trouble with and someone may be able to offer a workaround.

For anyone reading this - I worked it out.
You need to choose select "on click" in the question settings
