We use Storyline 1 and 2 and have been using the HTML5 option with publishing for over a year. We have a new virtual desktop running IE 11 with no Flash installed. The content doesn't play (just shows a red X in upper left). When we installed FireFox on the desktop it played the content fine in HTML5.
It seems with IE11 something isn't referenced to start playing the HTML5 version of the content. Has anyone had issues with IE11? We are moving away from Flash where we can so we have been prepping for this by publishing with HTML5.
Brian, from the virtual desktop with IE11, I'm wondering if the content launches for you if you use the HTML5-specific URL, e.g., point directly to the "story_html5.html" or the "index_lms_html5.html" if you're using a LMS...
I did want to offer a reminder here, that although the content may work in those browser they are not supported browsers for HTML5 content as detailed here in our system requirement.
As Brian Allen shared, you can also look at testing further by pointing directly to the HTML5 output using those URLs from your published output.
This is SCORM content so as I understand it, we need to use the imsmanifest so it wil score. If we use story_html5.html" or the "index_lms_html5.html" I don't think scoring will work?
Based on the requirements you don't support IE11 for HTML5 on Windows?
Brian, as far as scoring, for your LMS you'll want to point to "index_lms_html5.html", and see if that launches the HTML5 content in IE11 for you.
I can't speak for Articulate and what is officially supported, but we have recently gone thru a round of testing with IE11 in our organization and did not have any issues with our Articulate published content.
Thx, we use IE11 and there are no issues if Flash is on the device. However, the new Virtual Desktop has no Flash which creates the issue. I'll probably have them push it through FireFox.
Yes, just the HTML5 content in IE11 and Firefox would not be supported - but Flash should work just fine. I know other users have mentioned it works fine for them but it's generally course specific based on what types of things you've included and how the user is interacting with it.
Just to clarify, Flash is still required in Storyline 2? The HTML5 content..via the Deployed SCORM -imsmanfest method we use works fine in FireFox with no Flash client. Our CTO and desktop developers team prefer to use IE11 with no Flash. Is there a roadmap in place for when Flash will not be required? Thx
Yes, Flash is still required to author in Storyline and will be included as a part of the published output. I've heard from a number of users that if they direct to the story_html5.html content they're able to view it normally in IE11 or Firefox, but those browsers are not officially supported for HTML5.
We don't release information in regards to future support or our timeline and product roadmap, but our team is always looking at how we can support existing and future set ups. Luckily we've got a whole team always thinking about things like increased HTML5 support.Once we have additional information to share we'll be certain to let folks know - and if you would like to share your thoughts directly with our team, please feel free to send your ideas along here in the form of a feature request.
Ah, forgot you were hosting in an LMS - this thread discusses changes within the published output to point directly to the HTML5 only in an LMS - but it involves changing the file code a bit.
Certainly understand that set up Brian - and please also keep in mind that although Firefox may work with the HTML5 output, it's not officially a supported browser for Storyline content.
I'll add FF support as a feature request. I use Google Chrome as my primary browser put large Academic medical Centers like Duke still use IE as the primary browser , due in part to variety of apps we use and their variation in browser compatibility. FF is becoming our 2nd alternate browser.

Does the story_html5.html handle scoring like the imsmanifest file? I'll submit a feature request. Thx

We have ~ 2000 content items using the Deployed SCORM with imsmainfest so doing a code change is not an option. It also seems inconsistent.
Our best option seems to be using FireFox in a no Flash env.

Thanks Brian for sending along the request and our team is continually looking at ways to support other setups and more options for HTML5 support.
