Web object won't display in Storyline course

Apr 29, 2014

Hi guys,

I have a very weird issue happening with web objects. Let me set the stage for you:

I have a course that we (my team and I) have decided to use to embed a web-based feedback survey in. Using the web object tool, I embed the URL for the survey into the slide. I use the preview button to verify that the link will open (as well as using the "Test Link" button when creating the web object), and all is well. However, when I publish the course and view it (both locally and via our LMS), the web object will not display in the slide.

To try to figure out what the problem could be, I created a new project containing only the slide with the web object, and it worked flawlessly. It's only when I have the web object in the actual course that it doesn't work. And it's only this course - I tested the web object with another course I have available and it works too!

Unfortunately, I can't post the "problem" course .story file because it contains confidential and proprietary information. Has anyone run into a problem like this? Or does anyone know of any other assets in a course that could interfere with a web object so it doesn't display?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Shawn

Hi Shawn and welcome to the community!

That does sound odd. If you have it set up exactly the same way in the original course, that makes me wonder about the file.

Try importing the slides from the original project into a new, blank project file. If that fixes the issue, the file may have become corrupted.

If that doesn't work, you could try importing a slide that does work in another project into the original. Just for testing, of course.

If you still have trouble, you're welcome to share the .STORY file privately with me. Submit a support case and request my attention in the case description. I'd be happy to take a look and see what's happening. Also, all files shared with us through a support case are kept confidential and will only be shared upon your request.

Thank you!
