Web object youtube error message

Nov 23, 2015

Hi All,

I'm trying to add a youtube video as a web object in ASL 2,  but I keep on receiving the following error message on the video player in published mode:

"An error has occurred. Please try again later"

I've tried to publish in different formats to see if this resolves the issue but it doesn't. It's a massive inconvenience that web objects can't be previewed in ASL.

Has anyone else had this issue. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks

Michael.

Hi Michael,

I'd look at starting with the solutions here for why the web object may not appear in the published output. Additionally you could also test in SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing LMS output to see how it behaves there and that'll help determine if there is an issue with the LMS, web object or the published output.

Hi Michael,

How have you published it? You'll want to make sure you publish for LMS and then upload the entire contents to the LMS. I haven't heard of a particular issue with Web objects and SCORM Cloud - but I"m curious where the web objects are being linked from? If you'd be able to share a link to the web object here we're also happy to take a look.

Hi Ashley,

The web objects are youtube videos.  I've just heard back from our LMS provider and their system does not support iFrames. I'm not entirely sure where this leaves us in terms of using videos other than just  displaying the URL.

Forgive my ignorance but how do i share a link to the web object? Is it just a case of sharing/ attaching the ASL file?

Hi Michael,

If your LMS does not support iFrames then you may not be able to use the video as a web object. Have you looked at downloading it and adding the video directly into your course? You could also have a trigger to jump to the URL and let that open in a new window/tab so that the user could view the course - very similar to your set up of having the URL displayed.

As for sharing here, I'm not sure we'll need to see it if you've confirmed it won't work in your LMS, but you can always share the .story file here using the "add attachment" button or if you were just needing to share the link to the YouTube video, you're welcome to include that URL directly in a reply and then we can look at it on the site.
