Web objects not playing when posted to Sharepoint

Mar 11, 2014

I have a Storyline course that has two Engage '13 interactions inserted as web objects (since Storyline doesn't work with Engage '13).

I originally tested out the course and the two interactions using Dropbox and they both ran fine.  However when I move the course over to Sharepoint (using the publish to web option) and following all of the steps (windows explorer view, etc) the two Engage interactions will not play.  The rest of the course displays fine but the interactions do not.

I had to use the story.swf link because Sharepoint has a strange thing of downloading any .html files rather than opening them in a browser.  Not sure if this could cause an issue or not.

I also had the same problem with another web object in a different course where we were trying have a Google Form show up in the course but when transferred over to Sharepoint the web object wouldn't work.

Is this typical?  Has anyone else had success in getting web objects embedded into Storyline to play in Sharepoint?

Or is there any other workaround for getting an Engage '13 interaction to play in a Storyline file in Sharepoint?

Hi Carrie,

I'm not sure why you are having trouble; I frequently use web objects in Storyline courses housed on SharePoint. I'm also not sure why you're using the story.swf link and would guess that that may be where your problem lies. I've not seen the behavior of SharePoint trying to download .html files and I always launch my SharePoint-hosted Storyline projects via the story.html file.

I realize I'm not being very helpful here but to answer your question about using web objects in SL projects hosted on SharePoint: yes, I do it all the time. (I haven't tried using Engage '13 interactions, however.)

Thanks for your quick reply.  I was hoping to hear that web objects just don't work in Storyline so I could finally give up.  I have been working on this for two days now and can't seem to get it to work.  I have tried every option available.  I even tried using Engage '09 and adding it into the Storyline file and that won't play either.  So I'm thinking you are right about the .html file.  Sounds like there are others that have this issue with Sharepoint http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/57ccf227-0f07-4f15-926a-d07c61882675/prompt-for-file-download-on-page-viewer-web-part-pointing-to-htm-file?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious.  I don't have Central Administrator access so can't make the change and don't think the company I am working with will want to change this setting.  But I will ask and see.

Thanks for confirming!!
