Web Objects - open in same window/tab?
Feb 25, 2015
We are creating a series of e-learning modules that will be presented on our Joomla site. Each module is preceded by a form (created with a Joomla extension) to collect user info. The form links over to the Storyline module. When the user is finished they fill out a feedback form (using the same form software).
I have created a test module that uses a web object to go to the feedback form. The problem is that if I embed the form in the Storyline frame, it displays the whole web page - menus, headers, footers, everything.
I don't know if a way to pull in the form without bringing the whole page with it, other than perhaps creating a separate template just for the form, which is beyond my skills. I can embed the form in a webpage using the extension's shortcode, but that doesn't seem to be an option for the web object (which requires a URL).
An alternative is to have the web object (form) open externally (not inside the Storyline frame), but this defaults to opening a new window (not even just a new tab) which I'd rather not do either.
Is there a way to get the web object to open in the same page? It's probably the best option, given the limitations.
Thanks in advance for the help. :)

Hi Wendy,
You can only set a web object to open in the slide or in a new window as detailed here.
Hopefully someone else in the community has other ideas on ways you can make this work.
Thanks for your reply, Ashley. Unfortunately this limitation makes our job rather difficult. Is there a way to log answers that the user gives to all or certain questions/slides? Or, if not to log them (e.g. in a database), to email them to the admin of the module?
HI Wendy,
Storyline can track a users answers to quiz questions, and report that information to an LMS - although we don't support tracking the answers by database or similar - there may be users here in the forums who have set up similar. We also don't have a method to email results either.
Thanks for clarifying, Ashley.
