Web Publishing and Mobile

Aug 06, 2015

Hi all,

I'm currently developing some (very basic) Storyline courseware for a non-profit that is being published to a website. Each stand-alone "module" is embedded on its own static page of the website in an iframe.

The content is for learners of adult basic education courses. They'll be using it on computers in their classes/at the library, but it's very pertinent that they are able to access the content on their phones as well, as many of them don't have computers at home. I've published the content to Tempshare and it plays in the Articulate Mobile App to a satisfactory level. What I'm not sure about is what the best method is for displaying / directing the learners to this content from the website. Has anyone had to do something similar or have an idea about how this might be able to work without a lot of programming development?

Ideas are welcome. Thanks so much!

Hi Marcia,

Thanks for reaching out here and great questions. In regards to using Tempshare, I did want to remind you it's only meant as a temporary/testing platform not a long term hosting solution as the courses will be removed after 10 days.

If you're able to embed on their web page, you could include a link to that page and that'll allow users to access it on a PC or when opening on a tablet, if you've published for the mobile player app it'll open there. Once it's loaded into the mobile player, they only need to visit the mobile player app and then they'll be able to utilize the course from there. It's worth noting that the mobile player is specific to the iPad or Android tablets, so if they need to access on their phones you'll want to direct them to use one of the supported browsers mentioned here and access the link in the browser.

Here is another great article on things to consider when publishing for mobile devices.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I know Tempshare is temporary - I was using it for testing purposes to see how the content looks in the app. I'm a little confused by your comment "It's worth noting that the mobile player is specific to the iPad or Android tablets" as I was using the app on my Android phone last night, and it was working. What am I missing?

Thanks.
