What impact does Flash have on producing media content using Storyline 2?

Jun 06, 2016

I work for  a government agency that is looking to purchase Articulate Storyline. We note that its use may require the need for Adobe Flash Player.

We are wanting to eradicate Flash from our environment, due to the fact that it is constantly exploited by cyber criminals, and creates significant overhead for us in trying to manage the problem.

What impact will it have if Flash is not used to create content?

The Articulate folks are the authority here but I believe content authored in SL2 is rendered by default in a Flash based player. The published HTML wraps the Player object, but front and center is a Flash control. Devices that don't support Flash (e.g. Apple) I believe require a specific player to be installed from their corresponding app stores.

Again, I'd defer to the definitive answer from Articulate...

Hi Fay!

Brian is correct and you can see from our system requirements here that Flash is a required element for authoring in Storyline 2.

Articulate Storyline lets you publish courses for Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player app. To distribute your published content, upload it to your web server or LMS, then link to the story.html file in the published output. Here’s how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when learners view it.

Hi Fay!

I do not have any information or details about any potential products. Even if I did, we typically do not provide product road map or release information.

We are aware of the impact of Flash on organizations and the want/need to shift and our customers have been vocal about this. I just do not have any further information at this time.
