A lot of it depends on the screen resolution of the user viewing it. Also you have to take into account the player and the extras it tacks onto the slide, such as the sidebar and the navigation buttons like next and previous.
- Use the smallest dimensions you can reasonably implement.
Here's why:
- Larger dimensions take up more pixels. There is an exponential relationship between screen area and file size. File sizes for images and video for a resolution that is twice as wide and high are multiplied x4 or possibly more depending on the efficiency of the compression algorithm at higher resolutions.
- You can fit a smaller dimension into a larger screen but you cannot fit a larger dimension into a smaller screen.
That said, "it depends" on what you know about your audience and what trade-offs you're willing to make. I'd test it at the default. If you're reasonably happy with the results, stick with the default. If not, step it up to a larger resolution (4:3 ratio or 16:9 ratio if you're OK with letterboxing).
Awesome. Thanks for the info. Could this be put into some sort of feature request for the Storyline forums to have this as a link on the Tutorial page? I'm sure I'm not the only person whose ever asked this, or will likely ask again. I appreciate the help from everyone. Thanks!

Hi Jesse,

Always Happy to Help,

Here is the resolution:
1st & 2nd generation
1024 × 768 pixels at 132 pixels per inch with a 4:3 aspect ratio
3rd generation
2048×1536 pixels 264 pixels per inch
I subscribe to this rule of thumb:

Trying that again. Link looks broken:
