Hi - When exactly does SL download an audio file? Does it do it only when it is played, or when a page containing the audio clip is loaded even if it is not played?
I want to give the users an option to globally turn on and off the soundtrack, using a variable to control that. I've got that figured out now. One reason for keeping it off is the impact on bandwidth in schools where there can be many students on one wireless connection. If the audio control variable is set to off so that the trigger to play never fires, is the audio file downloaded anyway?
Also, is this answer the same on Flash and HTML5 output?
Here's a brief article describing how and when content is loaded in Storyline, and to the best of my knowledge, this is true for all published formats. Looks like where your audio is located, slide-wise, will affect whether or not you can turn it off before it loads.
