Sorry to hear about the error message and I wanted to check which update of Storyline are you using? Update 4 dealt with a number of saving issues as detailed here although you could still look at purging your temp directory. We're currently on Update 6, so you'll want to be on the latest update.
Have you looked at the memory being used via task manager? I'd suggest closing down any other open programs and trying to do a "save as" to a different location/name on your local drive.
