Where are my storyline files?

Jun 18, 2020

Hi there -

I completed a project last week. Just now, I launched Storyline so I could copy a slide from that project. The Open Recent list is from months ago, and the actual recent files are not there.

I checked the My Articulate Projects folder on my drive, and the Storyline Output files are there, but not the native ones. I checked the server where the company keeps its files and also the SharePoint server, and they aren't there.

Trying not to panic. Help?

Hi Lerissa

best practice is to be working on the source Storyline file from your local drive and not a network drive.

Are you working from your local drive when you open the files in SL? If so, then the files should be somewhere on there unless deleted.

Try doing a search using the *.story file extension to see if they appear.

Hi Wendy –

I have always worked on the project on my local drive and have stored the source files there.

I have done a search on .story in the temp folder and in the My Articulate Projects folder – both on the local drive. Nothing. Just the output files.

I will search the rest of the drive as well.

Hi Wendy - Yes. That is what I would expect. Old files leave the Recent list because ... well, because they are no longer recent.

But that is not what happened.

The old files - from projects I worked on last December - are displayed in my Recent list.

The NEW files - from the project I completed LAST WEEK - are gone.

I've done a "hand search," folder by folder, through most of the folders on my C drive. Nothing. It's as if this project never existed. I have found pieces and parts of my old, six-months-ago projects all over the place. But last week's work - nothing.

I'm really sick about this ...
