Why does my character have a white box around them instead of a drop shadow? It looks fine in timeline mode but appears with a white box in both Preview and Published views. Drop shadows do work on other objects in my project. Thanks.
Thanks for your response. I'm still getting a white box taking the steps you suggested. It only happens when I use the Perspective Drop Shadow. Other drop shadows work on the character.
I cannot reproduce this issue particularly, here is what I get with a perspective shadow :
She has some sort of a white "head holder" to make sure it doesn't separate from the body
I guess it is time for bug submission. I will submit mine but I guess you should submit it also with your .story file so Articulate has all the information to fix this.
In following up with this, it seems like it may be related to a known issue with color depth. Would you mind taking a look at this article and letting us know what your color depth is set to? You'll want it to be at 32-bit.
And can you also please confirm which version of Storyline you're using, as this was an issue addressed in earlier builds. We'll look forward to hearing back.
If you're able, we'd love to be able to take a look at your .story file so we can try to determine why you're experiencing this behavior. Are you able to send it to us using this link? And feel free to leave me your case number once you get it so I can follow up with it personally. Thanks again, we really appreciate you helping us work through this.
Case Number: 00289346 Reference ID: ref:_00D30Txo._50040KoFKN:ref Case Details: White box appears behind illustrated characters when adding perspective shadow. With characters in original state, the box is small, located in the neck area. When flipping characters horizontaly the white box is bigger, covering the entire background.
Thanks so much for sending the file and opening the case, Eilert. Looks like it's been sent along to our QA guys who are going to take a good close look at this. I'll keep you posted...
Was there a fix for this issue in the update? We just encountered a character with a white box as well but haven't installed the update yet since there seem to be bigger issues which arise with the update.
This is still something we're working on getting resolved. If you're curious about the full details of what was addressed in Update 1, you can find that here. Thanks for your patience
After trying to get the white box removed from the shoulders of my character for the last hour or so, I have to admit, I was kind of relieved when I found this post to realize that it wasn't just some dumb thing I had done... Will adding my post here and leaving the "Subscribe to replies to this post" box checked be the way I'll find out when/if this issue is resolved. Thank you.
That's correct We'll have this fixed in our next update, which isn't far off, and I'll update the thread when it's released. In the meantime, this article explains the issue in more depth, along with a couple workarounds. Welcome again!

Hi Michael,
Are you using the set of characters included within Storyline?
Could you post a screenshot of what you see or the .story file so we could take a look at it?
Annie
Yes, here's a screen shot. Thanks for your time.
Hi Michael,
I was able to reproduce your issue using the "preset" pictures style.
If you go by Picture Effects, and add the shadow from there, you shouldn't have the issue anymore.
Don't hesitate to post back if you need further information.
Hope it helps, have a nice day!

Thanks Annie.
I got your same result when I tried working in a new file. Something funky going on : )
Thanks for your help.

I have the same issue, did you get any response from the developers regarding this problem?
This must be an easy fix? Can't help but wonder why storyline was released with issues that are this visually apparent...

Hey Peter
My color depth is set to 32-bit, so that isn't it in my case at least.
As for storyline version I'm running the version indicated below, on a windows 7 OS
Thanks for replying

Hello Michael and Annie
I've found that the white boxes appear when you drag/mirror a character. When inserting without dragging, the character just has a white "neckholder".
Hope this is an easy fix, the shadows give nice depth to the slides

Thanks for the info, Eilert
